Research Interests

Evgenia's research interests mostly lie in the field of volcanic aerosols impact on climate. During the strong volcanic eruptions huge amount of sulfate dioxide gas is injected into the stratosphere and by means of chemical reaction it is converted to sulfate aerosols. These volcanic aerosols scatter significant amounts of the incoming solar radiation producing strong radiative forcing and cooling the surface. Evgenia's objective is to explain the mechanism of the interaction between this volcanic forcing and the event of El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) happening in the year of the eruption. For this purpose she uses Coupled Climate Model CM2.1 by Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.
