Prof. Stenchikov’s Research Group Objectives

  • Mathematical modeling of global and regional atmospheric and oceanic processes and assessing environmental impacts on the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea. Support scientifically based management and decision-making on the national and international levels to further sustainable development, prevent technological disasters, and help to mitigate and adapt to the on-going climate change.
  • Study atmospheric chemistry and air pollution. Evaluate the effects of natural and anthropogenic aerosol emissions, geoengineering, regional-to-global scale catastrophic events, dust storms, flash floods, and technological disasters to environmental systems and human health.
  • Assess solar and wind power renewable energy resources. Establish and maintain monitoring sites in over the Arabian Peninsula to measure key aerosol and radiation characteristics.
  • Contribute in the IPCC/Cordex project on regional climate change and variability in the Middle East and North Africa.  Contribute in United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) coordinated Assessment of the Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR).
